Elena Baltacha died of cancer.  The former Ukraine-born tennis player lost her battle against liver cancer, aged 30.

“We are heartbroken beyond words at the loss of our beautiful, talented and determined Bally,” said her husband and coach Nino Severino.

He added: “She was an amazing person and she touched so many people with her inspirational spirit, her warmth and her kindness.”

Elena, called Bally by friends and family, was British number one nearly three years ago.She revealed that she had an illness on Twitter in March this year.

The tennis player was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a chronic liver condition, at the age of 19 and in a statement she told her followers that she was battling the illness with “everything” she had. –ExpressUK
