Free Monique Coverson and Larissa Joseph – US citizens unjustly imprisoned in Kuwait Prison

To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to you to request your assistance in a matter of grave importance. My daughter, Monique Coverson, and her friend Larissa Joseph are currently serving 20-25 year prison sentences, for which they have been wrongly accused. Monique proudly served her country for 7 years as a soldier in the United States Army. Stationed in Kuwait, and after serving her tour of duty, Monique and Larissa later returned to the country to work for the Army as military contractors.Upon completing their work as contractors, they stayed in the country to provide yet another service, which was to share their musical talents with comrades, and friends they had come to know along the way.Monique and Larissa are currently imprisoned in Sulaibiya, in the city of Kuwait, and are being held captive at Central prison. Their residence was raided early the morning of May 8, 2015. There was a “tobacco like” substance on the premises, which was confiscated. This was sent to a lab in Germany, and after being analyzed, was determined to be an ounce of a substance that was not illegal to possess (the initial findings of the raid). Their musical equipment, passports, social security cards, and personal belongings at this time are unknown. After being held for 8 months, they were sentenced on January 12, 2016, to 20-25 years for being in possession of a pound (no longer an ounce) of marijuana, which was purported to be mixed with hashish. Our attempt to hire an attorney to help us in this matter has been fruitless. Nothing has been done, they are unable to reach the attorney for any type of consultation, or assistance. In fact, the only time the attorney has made contact with us, is to request money, for services not rendered (extortion). They did not possess an illegal substance, their belongings, and their freedom, have been taken away from them. They are being held captive for a crime that they did not commit, on foreign ground, with no help in sight.I pray for a response, and that my request does not fall on deaf ears. Please help bring them home. Respectfully yours, Michelle L. Jackson(Desperate Mom)
