Undefeated welterweight Juan “The Beast” Rodriguez of the Union City Boxing Club will take on fellow unbeaten Sammy Vazquez in the opening fight at Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, Pa. tomorrow night.
The fight between Rodriguez (11-0 with 5 K.O.s) and Vasquez (13-0 with 9 K.O.s) will be televised by Showtime starting at 10:45 p.m. The bout is being promoted by Iron Mike Productions — a new company headed by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson — according to a Union City Boxing press release.
“I’m pumped, but honestly I don’t think it has hit me yet,” said the 27-year-old Rodriguez. “I’m more focused on the fight and getting the job done.
“I know that he’s in top shape and I know I’m in top shape, so it comes down to who wants it more and I’ll tell you this, ‘The Beast’ is hungry.”
